Fig West Chester Summer 2012 | vol 3 - 3
Fig® was created & is produced by FANCY A TASTE? THE FOOD SCENE in West Chester is dynamic, diverse and booming. The fresh scent of coffee and pastries in the morning teases our noses. Dozens of restaurants have outdoor seating in the warmer months, allowing lively chatter mixed with colorful cocktails and the scent of good food to spill out onto the brick sidewalks. These shared experiences revolve around one central aspect: getting a taste. A taste of life - of good food shared with good company. More today than ever before, our humble town features options and atmosphere that give the big city a run for its money. In one walk down Gay Street you can take in the scents of India, sample the famed cooking of France, enjoy a layover in Italy and Greece, and be back in time for a burger and craft beer with the family. Restaurants all over town have tables set for summer, laying out the perfect excuse to extend your Friday lunch into happy hour. Iron Hill has a seasonal beer or three up its sleeve. The signature grill at Carlino's is smoldering, inviting pedestrians to step inside for a taste (and maybe even a cooking lesson or two). Yet above everything we can touch, smell and taste on the surface, it's the way we operate that makes the difference. Local residents and visitors acknowledge the importance of locally grown produce and have joined in the farm-to-table movement by shopping at the local estc at f igw Hun gry ? West Chester is actively giving local farmers a platform to sustain their business, and the combined efforts of the farmers and local food lovers beautifully display the synergy that dwells among us. This is a town abundant with good food and good people - where a sense of community is built over a shared meal. Whether you pack in at a local diner counter for breakfast or grab a seat to enjoy appetizers and a longer meal at one of the many restaurants on a summer evening, you'll see college kids and local business folks rubbing elbows over eggs benedict or lawyers and locals sharing a bite side-by-side. This town reminds you on a daily basis that eating and drinking are so much more than a life necessity. When we dine together we satiate not only our hunger, but also our desire to connect with our community. enjoy!
