Fig West Chester Holiday 2013 | vol 9 - 43
Fresh and In Season 1001 Longwood Road, Kennett Square longwoodgardens.org Many generations helped create Longwood Gardens, but Pierre du Pont-industrialist, conservationist, farmer, designer, impresario, and philanthropist-made the most enduring contribution. Pierre du Pont bought the Peirce farm and soon began creating what would become Longwood Gardens. He followed no grand plan; rather, he built the gardens piecemeal, beginning with the "old-fashioned" Flower Garden Walk. This holiday, extravagant, fruit-adorned trees towering as high as 18 feet stand in the Longwood Gardens Conservator, and red and green apples float in an artistic pattern in the Exhibition Hall. The Music Room display pays homage to the Green Room at the Hotel du Pont in Wilmington, Delaware-featuring sugared fruit-laden trees and a lavish holiday tea set for 18 special guests. Longwood Gardens is adorned for the holiday from November 28 - January 12. events in the valley LONGWO O D GAR D ENS A Holiday Celebration American Helicopter Museum & Education Center December 14 610.436.9600 Forget the sleigh- Santa touches down in a helicopter and visits with kids at 11 AM and 1:30 PM.
